The Principal’s Message

 
Since its establishment in 2003, Auckland International College (AIC) has been committed to educating students of great calibre to be global leaders of the 21st century.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB Diploma) that our school has been offering to its students puts much focus on nurturing the students’ own ability to think independently and creatively, rather than making rote-memorization a basis of their knowledge acquisition. The flexibility of having two types of learning blended is what makes IB learning one of a kind. AIC students are expected to equip themselves with a wide range of academic knowledge and understanding through the comprehensive curriculum, which also allows them to pursue their particular academic interests in depth. While the medium of instruction in our school is English, there are many students whose first languages are not English. We pay close attention to their needs of language assistance, and have created special ESL programmes through which these students can acquire competence in the English language within a short time. This enables students to delve into other academic disciplines with much ease. In fact, many of our non-English native speakers, with their tireless efforts, have gained admissions to top tertiary institutions across the world. Further to this, AIC offers several advanced academic programs outside the regular classroom teachings, including training programs for International Mathematics and Biology Olympiads. Many of our students achieved well in these Olympiads, and were later admitted into notable universities.

As a result of the concerted efforts of students and teachers, our school attracts much attention from world leading universities. The destinations of our alumni include such US and UK universities as Harvard University, Princeton University and other Ivy League schools, MIT, Stanford University, Cambridge University and Oxford University as well as the University of Tokyo, Hong Kong University, and other prominent universities in the Asia region.

With the unprecedented globalization that the world is experiencing now, what universities and industries are looking for in the young generation and in the education providers is changing greatly. They are seeking all-rounded students who not only excel in their academic studies, but also possess such skills as leadership, creativity, lateral thinking ability and rich humanity. Those who are keen to face the challenge of a world class education, who are eager to bring out their potential to the full extent, who are ready to study with gifted and academically outstanding students, who have the characters traits AIC seeks, which are inquisitive-mind, independence and goal-oriented leadership, and/or those who pursue the nature of knowledge, not being satisfied with what is thought to be right, but instead, seeking why something is right, and further asking what constitutes ‘right’, are all strongly encouraged to consider applying to our school, taking your education to the next level.
